A re-roof is the biggest job most homeowners will ever ask a roofing company about, and the first thing they want to know is roughly what it costs. Firstprice puts an instant roof replacement estimate on the website you already have, priced only from your rates, and sends you the enquiry with the job details.

What the homeowner does

  1. Chooses a replacement or a new roof, and a pitched or flat roof.
  2. Picks the covering: tile or slate.
  3. Sets the roof size in m² with a slider. If they don’t know it, they say so and the enquiry comes to you for a review instead of a guessed figure.
  4. Says whether the roof is steep and whether access is straightforward or difficult.
  5. Types anything else in plain words, such as a chimney stack, roof windows or solar panels, and it’s priced from your allowances.

They see a guide range within two minutes, worded clearly as an estimate that a survey confirms.

An example

A 60 m² tiled roof, with example rates of £110 to £160 per m², comes out at £6,600 to £9,600. Mark it as steep, with an example 10% labour allowance, and it’s £7,250 to £10,600. Add difficult access, with an example allowance of £350 to £600, and it’s £7,600 to £11,200. The same roof in slate at £150 to £210 per m² is £9,000 to £12,600. Your own rates and allowances replace all of these.

What you receive

The homeowner’s name and contact details, the job, the covering, the roof size, pitch and access, their notes and the figure they were shown. You ring back knowing the job and the number they’re expecting.

Built for how re-roofs are priced

  • Separate low and high rates per m² for tile and slate, and for flat roof coverings.
  • A percentage uplift for steep roofs and for a new roof over a straight replacement.
  • An allowance for difficult or higher access, such as scaffolding over a conservatory or a three-storey house.
  • Extras picked up from what the homeowner types, each priced from your figures.
  • Survey-only for asbestos, listed buildings, conservation areas and structural damage.
  • A line saying what the estimate includes and excludes, in your own words.
  • Checked against ten of your past quotes before it goes live.

Measuring the roof

Today the homeowner sets the size with a slider. Measuring the roof from a satellite map is being developed.

Where it goes

On your roof replacement page, or as a “Get an instant quote” button next to your contact button. It works on WordPress, Wix, Squarespace and most other website builders. See how it goes on your site, and how to set your rates per m².
